Standard Korean's historical basis in contemporary Seoul speech does not make every Seoul feature standard or every Korean word a Seoul localism. Learn city-specific names where geography matters, keep nationwide Korean scope visible, and avoid inferring region, class, age, ethnicity or personality from one expression.

대박
대박 (daebak) literally functions as a noun for a great success or big hit and is also widely used conversationally as an exclamation of enthusiastic approval, amazement, or 'awesome!'.
Seoul파이팅
파이팅 (paiting, commonly rendered 'fighting') is a Korean cheer of encouragement meaning roughly 'you can do it!', 'let's go!', 'good luck!', or 'keep it up!' rather than the ordinary English meaning of physical fighting.
Seoul한강 치맥
한강 치맥 (Hangang chimaek) refers to enjoying fried chicken and beer by the Hangang River, especially in Seoul's river parks; 치맥 itself is a Korean-wide blend of 치킨 'chicken' and 맥주 'beer', not a Seoul-only word.
Seoul홍대
홍대 (Hongdae) is the familiar name for the Seoul district around Hongik University, especially the Mapo area known for music, nightlife, street performance, art, fashion, cafés, and youth culture.
Seoul노래방
노래방 (noraebang) is a private singing room or karaoke room where people select songs and sing using microphones and a screen, commonly rented by time or used in coin-operated form.
Seoul눈치
눈치 (nunchi) is the ability to infer another person's feelings, intentions, or the social situation from indirect cues even when those things are not stated explicitly; it can also refer to the signs or expressions that reveal such a situation.
Seoul포장마차
포장마차 (pojangmacha) is a Korean tented food-and-drink stall or street bar, traditionally associated with inexpensive snacks, alcohol, evening socializing, and compact covered roadside or market-style setups.
Seoul따릉이
따릉이 (Ttareungi) is the name of Seoul's public bicycle-sharing system and, in everyday city speech, a Ttareungi is one of the shared bikes available through that system.
